My daughter uses pickle juice in making mashed potatoes. I suggested just using dill. So now, what she’s doing is saving the pickle juice from the really big pickle jar, is to just fill it up with new pickling cukes!
Also, a tasteless joke based upon a new word I made up, which I do a lot:
“What is the reaction of a gay person upon finding out that there is no Chick-Fil-A in his/her/other town to boycott?

Send me your best guess, and I’ll send back my tasteless, simply disgusting and awful response. I just want to add, don’t be hating, or Mother Effingby might cry.

Discovered you and your videos when a friend posted on your Chik-fil-gay (cause it’ll make you feel happy) video in response to Chik-fil-a. I like your style and recipes, and love you have a vegetarian section (I’ve been a meat-free-er for over 20 years (became one as a teen)… also your other recipes I can do substitutions, like with tvp for ground meat, and chicken and steak dishes I make my own seitan as a substitute, or can. Often times, I just leave out the meat and it’s still a good meal. Also, I’m gay, and did catering for a Real Simple Magazine photo shoot that took place last summer in Montana (Real Simple September 2011, pgs 188-199 – that model and her team ate MY food and I saw some of the photos being shot). Rock on. Looking forward to more.

      Hi Thomas!
That is so cool about the photo shoot! Let me know if you end up trying this recipe with seitan or something else. Thanks for writing and for your support.

Hilah! LOVE your site and your videos. I discovered you through The Austinist and your Chik-Fil-Gay sandwich is sure to become one of my regular meals.
I have to ask where you got that awesome seahorse necklace you’re wearing in this video. It’s adorable.
    Keep up the great work!

    Hey there Hilah,
I just wanted to thank you for the recipe. Apparently my wife loved Chick-Fil-A sandwiches back when she spent a year abroad in South Carolina as a teen. She’s very happy she’ll get to have one again without having to divorce me. 😉
Sending you summery greetings from Germany,
    Fey

Ha! I’m happy to play a part in keeping your marriage together, Fey. 😉

Um, I’m not finding the recipe lists. I can watch the videos but I don’t know what you’re using. Where is that information located?

    Thanks,
    Sherry

    • Hilah on August 3, 2012 at 8:46 am

It’s on the original video post, Sherry. Here: https://hilahcooking.com/chick-fil-a-copycat/

Yeah, sorry. I figured it out. I was clicking on new videos from the media player and that only changes the video but not the rest of the page. I made these and they were WONDERFUL! Will definitely make again, thank you!

        • Hilah on August 13, 2012 at 9:22 am

Oh, good. Thanks! Glad you liked them!

Is there a substitute for the pickle juice marinade for picky eaters who don’t like pickles? Half our family is anti-pickle and I really want to try this but I’m afraid it will have too much of a pickle taste from the marinade.

The concept of the pickle juice soak is essentially the same thing as a brining for the chicken. It’s just a combination of water, sugar, salt and a few added spices depending on your preferences. Google chicken brine recipe and you’ll get a lot of choices for making your brine.

    Hilah!
I have made these twice now and I am friggin addicted.
I used half cornstarch/flour, and about 2 tbsp chicken broth powder to the flour mixture, and DAMN. It cranked it up to an even more fast food taste. ha
I serve them on sweet onion/poppyseed buns. Serious omnommage.

Oh yes! Great idea, Wade, on the chicken powder. I bet that does make a big difference. xoh

I’m trying this recipe out tonight! I posted the video to my blog and will put an update pic of our sandwiches on later on. Thanks for this video, I’m from Texas and have been wanting a sandwich for the longest since the big bad controversy. Hopefully, mine will turn out as awesome as yours look.

    • Hilah on January 13, 2013 at 9:42 am

I hope you like it, Osheta! I love your name. 🙂 and I checked out your blog. I like you.

In regards to pickle juice. Vinegar helps break down the meat, like a natural tenderizer. Salt brines are good too, but not as good as vinegar.

Yes it is Sunday and I am craving a Chic fil a sandwich. I’ve got my chicken marinating. Just stumbled on your website. I must say I am very impressed with your ability to work w/flour and not make a mess. I’ll let you know my results in a couple of hours. Wish me luck!

Sweet fancy Moses, that is the BEST freaking chicken sandwich I’ve ever had! I haven’t had CFA in years (won’t give my money to anyone that hates my friends), but I do crave me some salty-sweet chicken once in a while. Your recipe beats the pants off the original. It’s soooooo juicy!

Love your site and I now have a bazillion new recipes to try!
