How To Make Meatloaf!

This is the first cooking video we ever made. We decided that we should just start shooting stuff and figure it out as we went. In fact, that’s still what we’re doing. But even though it’s totally rough around the edges, you can definitely use the information here to make some wicked meatloaf.

You use the exact same recipe that I do. And I do mean exactly the same. But I make 6 pounds at a time for sandwiches the next couple of days. Truly the food of the gods. I loved the unique and classy way you shut your oven door.

Egg-cellent recipe! Another twist I do on meatloaf is to put half the meat in the loaf pan and put two layers of american cheese and then seal it in with the rest of the meat on top. This goes really good with the ketchup. Or you can Italian-ize it by using mozzarella and topping the loaf with tomato sauce (Italian spices in the meat too). Love your vids! Keep them coming!

Is there anything more lovely than a loaf of meat? I submit that there is not. Hollah!

How can I get access to see your video on how to make meatloaf? I’d love to learn that one. I’ve never been able to make a meatloaf that did not taste like canned dog food.
Also, it would be great to see you do videos on making cole slaw, fried oysters, oysters rockefeller, or shrimp scampi. These are a few of my faves.

Girl, are you my long lost daughter? That is my EXACT recipe for meat loaf. I’m so glad I found you whilst looking for directions to season a vintage cast iron skillet! Love your videos and your awesome vintage kitchen!

I like how you flip the bird at us at 1:30 =] I never even tasted meatloaf for a whole 17 years of my life… And then it took me a year to find a recipe. And the fact that it is by you just instils in me the confidence to make an attempt at “COOKING”!

    • Hilah Cooking on December 5, 2010 at 4:31 pm

That is fantastic, Mike! I have my fingers crossed that you can DO IT! I know you can.

My grandma used to make individual meatloaves (aka really chunky hamburger) and adding chopped carrots along with the spices and onions. We’d either eat them dipped in ketchup or on bread, smushed down so we could fit it in our mouths. Delish! This vid almost makes me want to break my veg-ism to make them again. Almost!

    • Hilah Cooking on April 30, 2011 at 8:45 am

Love that image of you being a kid and smushing things, Veronika! Carrots sound like a great addition. Now you have me thinking about a vegan version, though. Hmm. I better get to work.

Oh, Hilah! This looks freakin’ good. Next time I’m in TX I’m dropping by for dinner. Until then…I’ll have to try my hand at making this.

Btdubs…did you notice the little bug on your counter at 9:21. I can’t keep my eye off that little guy.

    • Hilah on October 11, 2011 at 10:57 am

      Hell yeah, Marvin!
Gimme a shout if you’re ever in the ATX.
      (Sorry about the bug!)

Hilah, don’t tempt me girl. I may be in Austin in December for a wedding. Your inbox may be full of creepy emails if that happens. Haha!

I just got some awesome beef and chorizo from the green market here in NYC and I’m gonna give some of your best recipes a shot. My ex g/f is from Texas and she’s very happy to find out that I’m learning how to cook from a fellow Texan.

        Go Longhorns!
