How to Ruin Thanksgiving
Here’s a sketch comedy we shot at YouTube SpaceLA a few weeks ago. It was a great experience and SO fun for Chris and I both to shoot a semi-scripted video again! Some of you may not know that doing scripted comedy videos is how Chris and I met. You can read more about his film background on his website, ChristopherSharpe.com
We went into the space having a loose idea of what we wanted to shoot — some gags, some one-liners, some vignettes, basically some improv starting points — not knowing who would be available to play the roles or what props/equipment we were going to have, really anything about anything. We figured we’d need about 4 hours to shoot all the ideas we had, and ended up only being able to get into the set for 2 hours (including set up/clean up time). So it was a little hectic, but we got a lot of good stuff shot and I am really happy with how it turned out and extremely thankful that our friends were able to act and improv like champs!
I need to give a big thank you to the YouTubers who acted in our video! Check out their channels for good, clean fun!
Playing the part of Mom: Staci Perry of VeryPinkKnits
, a knitting tutorial series. Great for beginners and advanced knitters.
Playing my Husband: Billy Reid, and Playing The Friend: Reb Stevenson — together, Billy and Reb make Pancake Manor
, a webseries of song and puppets for kids! Think “Alt-Rock meets Fraggle Rock” and you got it.
Playing Uncle Don: Don Monopoli of The Learning Station
, funky music videos and dance for children!
And a special thanks to José Ortíz who not only stepped in to play Brother, but also assisted with production and made sure we had a small crew to help us get finished in the 2 hours we had allotted in the space.
Thanks, everyone! Happy Thanksgiving!

I loved the vid Hilah! Have you ever considered making a Mexican desert called Sopapillas??
Hi Dontavias! Thanks so much!
And sopapillas are on my list. I’ve got a recipe from my grandma I’ve been meaning to try out. Happy Thanskgiving!
I loved it. I think I’ll have Thanksgiving alone.
Ha! Don’t we all, Maureen. Don’t we all.
That was great! I’m sure we’ve all had those delightful family get togethers such as this one. I remember the first holiday my brother-in-law shared with us years ago- he was shocked that everyone wasn’t drunk (well, not really drunk) and screaming by the end of the meal. Apparently his family celebrated a bit differently.
Ahaha! That’s great, Cherry! My family is not really so bad, as long as my dad and uncle don’t get started about politics.
Loved it Hilah… pretty funny stuff..! Hope your TurkeyDay goes mucho better-o than that one!
Cheers Friend…
David
P.S. Sexy Texan Turkey Day must be the next video!
Thanks, Dave! Happy T-day to you, too!
Hi Hilah!
I loved this video and I’d love to see more of them!
Just thought I’d tell you that I’m using your blog for my English assignment (I’m a Texas A&M student, which probably makes us rivals haha). The prompt was to analyze a blog that’s about an interest/hobby of ours. I love cooking and your food blog is my favorite so it was a no-brainer for me.
Anyway, hope you had a great weekend and can’t wait for the next video!
Oh I’m so flattered, Caitie! Thank you!
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Your husband must either be rich or have a REALLY good personality that sometimes comes out.
You can do better.
WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE
B-)
Loved it, Hilah!! You are a star!
