How I started on YouTube, then almost quit, then started again

Hello! It’s been a long time. About three months since I posted a new video, and about seven months since we shot a video. Time flies when you’re taking care of a tiny, slug-like baby who depends on you for his very survival! Here’s a video update on what we’ve been up to, the thoughts that have been mulling through my brain since Flint was born, and where we plan to go from here. NEW VIDEOS will be posted every Saturday morning.

Highlights include:

0:50 my first YouTube videos

1:50 my first foray into writing scripted comedy

3:12 the indie film Chris and I worked on that led into …

3:45 the start of HilahCooking

4:50 HilahCooking becomes a Business

5:10 We talk about quitting HilahCooking forever

5:30 We decide to make our own destiny!!!

5:40 What you can expect to see in future episodes (field trips! restaurant reviews! food crafts! delicious recipes!)

Great to have you back Hilah. I’ve missed you and missed receiving a weekly e-mail with a YouTube surprise. At least we’ve had Instagram 🙂

SO glad you didn’t quit, Hilah. It was interesting to be reminded of some of your early beginnings, too. And how you and Chris got together – that was kindof amazing, right? Always gravitate to your stuff, you are sharp, beautiful, magnetic! Keep it up, girl!!

I’m really glad you’re getting back on your feet, Hilah. I know you’ll be great at whatever you do. how about a recipe for real greek gyros? The Greeks need all the help they can get these days.

Wow this is all totally awesome! We have missed you on YouTube but really happy it was because of lovely chubby tub of love Flint, he is so squidgy and gorgeous. Also love your eye make up in some of the early videos you made, you look good as a goth girl. I still like the cooking videos the most, but anything else you do, go for it and good luck. Just keep the recipes coming, especially the Tex-Mex home cooking. Yay!

I’ve been a subscriber on youtube for some time now and I have a suggestion that I think you could have a lot of fun with. There is actually a recipe for shwetty balls on the internet. I plan on making them next Christmas. Now my brother and my son will be rolling on the floor laughing and my youngest daughter will be blushing. She’s 26 by the way. Given your talents at comedy and your skill at cooking, it seems like a natural fit. The plus for me is seeing someone actually making this confection.

    Hi Hilah,

I found you on YouTube when I was looking for a recipe on how to make tortillas. You were great and so down to earth. As a new mom and dad we can relate to being a home cook. Thanks for the vids and we look forward to exploring your book and your web page. Thanks a bunch. If your ever up in Connecticut you will have to looks us up.

      Hi Sprole family!
Thanks so much 🙂 Yes, I realize now more than ever how important it is to have a cache of quick dinner recipes and will be keeping them all that way for a while.
Congratulations on your new little guy! Babies are fun.

I am a California girl, and I have to say there are perks to living here. You should look into some of the Inland Empire communities though, which are close to LA, but have great schools and nice family centered neighbors. Towns like Redlands, Rancho Cucamonga, and Loma Linda.

Hilah, I have been following your episodes for a few years. I stubled upon you by accident and I have been hooked since. You are delightful ! your cooking videos are easy to follow and delicious .. I actually make a lot of them as you inspire me ~ I am glad you aren’t quitting and I totally think you, your hubby and baby need your own cooking show on foodnetwork or cookingchanel. ( but that may be even more working for the man ~ yikes ) Anyway you are inspirational in the kitchen and as a talented woman ~ keep it up please ~
